Kota Kinabalu: Hotel prices in the country are expected to go up by between 10pc and 30pc due to the implementation of eight per cent Sales and Services Tax (SST).
The SST hike, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will be effective nationwide from March.
The Malaysia Tourism Federation (MTF) said the increase in prices is due to a combination of factors such as escalating operating costs, global inflation, a weak local currency and the added 2pc SST.
This combination is expected to push overall hotel rates up by potentially 30 per cent.
