Stability, moderation must remain Malaysia's priorities: LDP president

Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia is at a critical political crossroads where national stability, moderation and pragmatic governance must remain the country's guiding principles, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Datuk Chin Su Phin (pic) said.

Speaking at the joint annual general meeting of the LDP Likas, Api-Api and Luyang divisions, Chin said the priority was whether there was any national leader capable of uniting diverse political forces, maintaining stability, strengthening international confidence and attracting continued investment into Malaysia.

He said Sabah and Sarawak now play an increasingly decisive role in the formation of the Federal Government, and Sabah should use its stronger position to pursue greater development allocations, improved infrastructure, stronger state rights, greater autonomy and a stronger voice within the Federation.

Chin also said growing public support for Sabah-based political parties reflected the people's desire for leaders who understood the state's challenges, adding that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) should consider contesting the next state election independently while continuing to cooperate with the Federal Government.

He said LDP should strengthen its organisation and leadership, particularly on Sabah's west coast, identify Kota Kinabalu as a long-term strategic priority, and continue preparing to play a bigger role in shaping Sabah's future through moderate and inclusive politics.
