Kota Kinabalu: A police report has been lodged over a viral video allegedly containing false allegations, offensive language, and racially charged remarks aimed at the Kadazan Dusun Murut and Rungus (KDMR) communities.

In a statement, Dominic Ghani, Star Limbahau Division Secretary, said the report was filed on Aug 30 by Deputy Chief Homon Lianjun, along with Vice Chief VerusJoseph, Women Chief Doris Alum, Treasurer Jeffrey Billie, and committee members Florie Blthsar and Jalius Ag.

Dominic said the video, which had circulated widely on social media, was believed to have been tampered with and violates Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which prohibits communications intended to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass others.

“It also holds accountable those responsible for the network or platform used to spread such content,” he added.

The report was also made under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which deals with statements intended to cause public fear or alarm, or to incite offences against public peace or the state.

Dominic stressed that anyone who listens to the video would clearly recognise that a particular race has been unfairly targeted and smeared, and warned that such content could encourage similar hate-filled postings if left unpunished.

He called on the authorities to urgently investigate the matter, warning that inaction could embolden others to spread equally harmful and divisive content in the future.
