KOTA KINABALU: A suspended Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) Putatan parliamentary coordinator was sentenced to eight months’ jail and fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday for molesting a teenager four years ago.

Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus handed down the sentence to 55-year-old Phillip Among (pic) after ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court heard that Phillip committed the offence against an 18-year-old girl at about 11pm on April 17, 2021, in the living room of a capsule hotel in Asia City.

Phillip was convicted under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or any two of those punishments upon conviction.

He will serve an additional four months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
