Kota Kinabalu: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku’s membership in Perikatan Nasional may no longer be relevant because of disagreement about the formation of a unity government at the federal level, said the party’s president, Jeffrey Kitingan.

Responding to reporters’ questions whether the party, known as STAR, would be leaving PN, Kitingan said the two parties are moving in opposite directions at the moment.

“If you move that way, and I move this way… what does it mean? For STAR, our membership in PN, it seems that we are no longer relevant because of differences of opinion,” he said.

“Time will tell. If we don’t attend a few meetings, then that’s it. (The membership) will be lost automatically,” he said.

However, for now, Kitingan said his party prefers to let things cool down before they make their next move. “Right now, where everything is clouded, you can’t really see things. Let things cool down first,” he said.

STAR is part of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition in Sabah which also consists of Sabah Bersatu, Parti Bersatu Sabah, Sabah Progressive Party and Usno. STAR is also a member of PN, together with Bersatu, SAPP, PAS and Gerakan.
