Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers from ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’

After seven years, Star Wars is back with a new adventure – The Mandalorian and Grogu. This marks Mando (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu’s first big-screen outing after the series’ three-season run on streaming. Was it everything we hoped it would be? Is this the way? Well, it has its moments, especially with Grogu’s star power and cuteness overload. Bounty hunter Din Djarin is back doing missions for the New Republic, Grogu in tow, when Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) assigns a new bounty that requires him to traverse a galaxy far, far away into unlikely territories.

The Mandalorian has a unique challenge – bring Jabba’s son Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White) back to the Hutt Twins, who might or might not want to kill him since he’s the heir to the Hutt’s criminal empire. In exchange, the Hutts will provide the New Republic with valuable intel. Rotta, as it turns out, is not your archetypal nepo baby. Instead of inheriting the throne, he’d rather fight in an arena run by Imperial warlord Admiral Coin (Jonny Coyne) and forge an identity beyond Jabba’s son. Meanwhile, Coin plans on getting rid of Rotta in a death match at the arena. After discovering that capturing Coin is the end goal for the New Republic (that’s the information the Hutt twins would have given Mando upon delivering Rotta). He decides to help Rotta get away from his uncle and aunt. Of course, the Twins don’t take this deviation from the plan lightly and send bounty Hunter Embo (Dave Filoni) to bring them back.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu ending explained

Towards the end of the film, Rotta and Mando are captured and brought to the Twins’ stronghold in Nal Hutta. This is where Grogu embarks on a solo mission. With the help of a bunch of very smart Anzellans, they manage to rescue Din Djarin, who is unconscious and fighting for his life after being bitten by a deadly water snake. Their equation reversed – he nurses him back to health in what is the film’s most emotional sequence. The story ultimately revolves around the Child’s growth as he goes from a mischievous foundling to his found father’s caretaker and unlikely protector.

Mando recovers and launches an attack on the Hutt Twins and their massive Droid army with Grogu and Rotta by his side. Just when things begin to look a little bleak, the Anzellans return with Colonel Ward and a bunch of starfighters and take down the Twins. It’s quite a cinematic feat. In the climax, Mando, Grogu and Rotta make it out. Rotta finds his new calling and joins the New Republic. At the end of the adventure, our duo jets off into lightspeed and this time around, Grogu is allowed to press the button on the controls in the cockpit.

The climax is a culmination of a standalone film rather than a storyline that connects with any of the other shows like Ahsoka or Skeleton Crew. It’s all about fleshing out the Mandoverse and, more importantly, the relationship between The Mandalorian and Grogu and the latter’s coming of age as a formidable force in his own right.

Does the film have a post-credits scene?

The film doesn’t have a post-credits scene (we checked). So, it doesn’t give fans much to go on, which is fair considering that the feature is meant to be viewed as a continuation of the series. Disney’s Star Wars slate is rather uncertain, but we do know that Star Wars: Starfighter and an untitled New Jedi Order films are in the works. All in all, The Mandalorian and Grogu is a fun theatrical side-quest for those invested in the duo.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is currently in theatres.
