Three “Star Wars” releases tied to “The Mandalorian” are set to debut on Disney+ Philippines on Sept. 2, including the feature film “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu,” an official behind-the-scenes podcast and the animated special “LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian.”
Directed by Jon Favreau and written by Favreau, Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu as they face new challenges in the galaxy following the fall of the Empire.
The film also stars Sigourney Weaver, with Martin Scorsese and Jeremy Allen White lending their voices. According to its synopsis, the fledgling New Republic enlists Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, to help protect what the Rebellion fought for as Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy.
The feature film marks the characters’ first standalone theatrical adventure after the “The Mandalorian” series, which premiered on Disney+ in 2019. Its second season followed in 2020 and its third in 2023. “The Mandalorian and Grogu” opened in worldwide cinemas in May.
Alongside the film’s Disney+ debut, Lucasfilm will release the “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu Official Podcast,” with its first two episodes, “Growing Up” and “Bigger & Different,” also available Sept. 2.
The two-episode series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. Recorded on the movie’s Adelphi Base Bar set, it features Favreau, who directed, co-wrote and produced the film; Filoni, Lucasfilm president and chief creative officer who also co-wrote and produced it; Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson; and actors Pascal and Weaver.
Grogu also appears in the series as the creative team discusses the making of the film and its place within the “Star Wars” franchise and the stories of the Mandalorian and Grogu.
Video episodes will be available on Disney+ and YouTube, while audio-only versions will be released on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pandora, Amazon Music, SiriusXM, iHeart Radio and TuneIn.
Also arriving on Sept. 2 is “Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian,” an animated special that retells the events of all three seasons of “The Mandalorian” in comedic form.
The special revisits the live-action series through new interpretations of its stories and is based on “Star Wars,” created by George Lucas, as well as the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”
Chris Buckley directs the special, with Michael Price as writer. The executive producers are Price, James Waugh, Josh Rimes, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert, Jason Cosler and Keith Malone. Daniel Cavey and Dan Langlois are the producers.
The voice cast includes Gavin Hammon as the Mandalorian, David Acord as Grogu and MA-13, Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto, Bill Burr as Migs Mayfield, David Pasquesi as the Majordomo, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Emily Swallow as the Armorer and Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon.
Also lending their voices are Matthew Wood as Bib Fortuna, Jawas and the Kowakian Monkey Lizard; Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand; Nick Nolte as Kuiil; Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano; Taika Waititi as IG-11 and IG-12; Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett; Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth; Andre Sogliuzzo as the Mythrol and Stormtroopers; Carl Lumbly as Greef Karga; Eric Bauza as Luke Skywalker and EV-9D9; Flula Borg as the Client; Marti Matulis as Vane; Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Carson Teva; Shelby Young as Anzellans and Jawas; Steve Blum as Stormtroopers and Zeb Orrelios; and Trevor Devall as Dark Trooper, Dorian Shard and the Pit Droid.
Young, who has voiced several characters in animated “Star Wars” projects, recently debuted the official trailer for the special at the Star Wars stage at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The three releases will be available on Disney+ Philippines beginning Sept. 2.
