BANGGI: The installation of a Starlink device that provides access to higher-speed internet in Kampung Kalamkaman, here, is expected to benefit some 2,000 residents.

State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Ariffin Mohd Arif said the initiative was one of the State Government’s efforts through his Ministry to empower internet facilities in Sabah.

He said the installation by Sabah.Net, an agency under his Ministry, would also meet the needs of the young generation, especially in terms of education.

“This facility can also benefit community leaders, including the empowerment of economic activities,” he said after officiating the installation of the device at the Kampung Kalamkaman community hall, Monday.

Dr Mohd Ariffin said as many as 300 units of Starlink devices have been installed throughout Sabah so far and of the number, 31 units have been installed in several locations in the Kudat parliamentary constituency.

He said the installation of the device was a temporary solution while waiting for the construction of a telecommunications tower through the National Digital Network Plan 1 (Jendela 1).

“We will from time to time monitor and ensure that Jendela 1 can be implemented as expected by the Federal Government and the people of Sabah before the implementation of Jendela 2,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Mohd Ariffin, who is also the State Education Exco, officiated the WAM2Care Education Assistance Programme at SMK Banggi.

Various educational aids were distributed to students and the asnaf group, including the handing over of zakat aid to 145 students.
