
The satellite internet service Starlink, owned by tech magnate Elon Musk, is making its network available free of charge to new and existing customers until July 25 in the Venezuelan region hit by back-back earthquakes.
In an X post on Thursday, the company said it is "working to rapidly deploy Starlink terminals and restore connectivity to the hardest-hit areas."
Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodríguez expressed gratitude for the support, writing on X: "Every connection counts during times like these."
Two powerful earthquakes shook northern and central Venezuela on Wednesday evening, reducing entire blocks of flats to rubble. According to the Venezuelan government, 235 deaths have been recorded so far, but it is feared that thousands more people could remain buried under the rubble.
