SHAH ALAM, May 21 — The Selangor government has allocated RM6 million to provide each hajj pilgrim from the state with an incentive of RM1,000 this year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Muassasah Hajj Incentive, introduced in 2022, not only helps to lighten the pilgrims’ finances for the long journey but serves to show that the government cares for all Muslims in the state.

“Some RM6 million has been set aside for this initiative this year and 6,000 people will benefit. RM3 million of that amount was sponsored by Yayasan MBI while the rest is from the state.

“May this year’s pilgrims be received as Allah’s guests,” he said in a post on Facebook.

Yesterday, Amirudin handed over the cash aid to the pilgrims at a ceremony at Masjid Al-Ridhuan in Hulu Kelang.

Last year, the amount for the aid was raised to RM1,000 from RM500 for each person.

Aside from this, the state government is also sponsoring in full the expenses of pilgrims from low-income families for the entire hajj. This year, 75 people were eligible, up from 36 people in 2024.
