PETALING JAYA, Nov 28 — Local councils statewide have been encouraged to develop action plans for entrepreneurs to strengthen the macro-business ecosystem and drive local economies.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the plans would also boost the state’s revenue performance, with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) having been the first local council to implement such a plan.

“MBPJ, through the Petaling Jaya Entrepreneurs Strategic Plan 2021-2030, planned to strengthen the business economy within its area of jurisdiction within nine years.

“Other local councils, especially those with city status, are encouraged to develop their own plans as we cannot manage entrepreneurs conventionally due to digitalisation, which enhances competition,” he said.

He was speaking to the media after launching the “Entrepreneurs with Potential” awards ceremony at the MBPJ Civic Hall here today.

Najwan added that Selangor is formulating an action plan for the creative economy to drive revenue in the field ahead of its enforcement next year.

“The administration views the creative economy as having the potential to generate revenue as industry players such as songwriters, lyricists and screenwriters drive the economy through concerts,” he said.
