SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — The second road-paving megaproject will begin in early October and is expected to take two months to complete.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said roads that need immediate maintenance will be prioritised to ensure users’ safety.

“We have approved over RM20 million for this project. When we identify a road, we will pave it at once.

“This includes roads managed by local authorities, districts and the Public Works Department,” he said at the launch of the hi-tech Jetpatcher and the 2024 Mega Patching Project at Dataran Pahlawan here today.

Last year, the state government spent RM50 million for the large-scale paving of main roads, covering maintenance and road widening for the benefit of the people.

Spanning 94.9km, the maintenance involved 66 routes in Petaling, 39 in Klang, 29 in Gombak, 27 in Hulu Langat, 19 in Sepang, 17 in Sabak Bernam, 16 in Kuala Langat, 11 in Kuala Selangor, and eight in Hulu Selangor.

However, starting this year, the megaproject will be implemented annually, and has proven more effective than the high cost of the previous practice of performing maintenance on roads every five years.
