SHAH ALAM, Dec 1 — A sum of RM300,000 has been allocated for post-flood cleaning works across the nine districts in the state for the Selangor Volunteer (Serve) initiative.

State executive councillor for disaster management Najwan Halimi said the allocation will be distributed through each of the Selangor district youth and sports officers.

“The allocated funds is the initial amount but if it is insufficient, additional allocation will be added as necessary,” he said at a media conference at Kompleks Generasi Muda & Sukan Selangor, today.

He said this statement during the handover ceremony for Serve’s post-flood cleaning supplies.

The cleaning supplies include water sweepers, water jets, rubber gloves, and hoes.

Najwan emphasised that the initiative is part of the state government preparation to face the northeast monsoon, scheduled to commence in November, which will persist for several months.

“Established in 2021, Serve is dedicated to offering post-disaster cleanup assistance to affected areas and victims.

“The Selangor Sports Council (MSNS) has been appointed as the agency and coordinator for Serve, tasked with mobilising aid missions to deliver donations for necessities and food provided by the state government as part of the post-disaster cleanup efforts,” he said.

To date, there are 1,500 registered volunteers and participation is still open to everyone.
