Planning a stay at Genting Highlands? Guests at First World Hotel may want to take note of a room safety notice that has caught the attention of social media users.

A notice titled “Guest Safety Notice”, reportedly issued by the hotel management, explains that daily room safety checks are conducted at 3PM to ensure guests’ well being. According to the facebook posted by 笑 到 你 抽 筋 !?, hotel staff will first call the room. If there is no response, staff may enter to conduct a brief safety check, even if a “Do Not Disturb” sign is displayed.

The notice states that the policy is intended to ensure everything is secure, while assuring guests that their privacy remains important to the management.

However, the announcement has prompted mixed reactions online, particularly after a netizen shared an awkward experience involving a room check.

According to the account circulating online, a guest was reportedly taking a shower when hotel staff entered the room after receiving no response to a telephone call. The encounter became a talking point among commenters, with some joking about the guest’s embarrassing situation.

One commenter joked that the hotel might be trying to prevent guests from dying unnoticed inside their rooms. Another suggested placing a telephone in the bathroom so guests could answer calls while showering.

Others took a more serious view, saying that unexpected entry into a hotel room could make guests feel uncomfortable or unsafe. One commenter even joked that guests should avoid showering around the scheduled inspection time.

Meanwhile, some users appeared to take the incident in good humour. One commenter remarked that the guest was fortunate to receive a compliment rather than being laughed at, while another joked about the possible meaning of the staff member’s remark.

Despite the humorous reactions, the discussion highlights a genuine question: how should hotels balance guest safety with personal privacy?

Safety checks can help hotel staff identify emergencies involving guests who may be unwell or unable to respond. At the same time, entering an occupied room can raise concerns, particularly when a guest is showering, sleeping or otherwise unable to answer the telephone.

For travellers, it may be helpful to read hotel notices carefully and contact the front desk to clarify the room-check procedure if anything is unclear. Guests should also ask how staff will identify themselves before entering a room.

Ultimately, the issue is not simply whether hotels should conduct safety checks, but how those checks can be carried out with appropriate care, communication and respect for privacy.

What do you think? Are daily 3PM room checks a reasonable safety measure, or should hotels adopt a more privacy friendly approach to ensure you're safe?
