Kota Kinabalu: The Kaamatan Festival celebration was held at SMK Stella Maris in Tanjung Aru near here last Friday to commemorate Teacher’s Day which also fell last week.

The Kaamatan programme was under the management of the Kadazandusun Language Committee (BKD). The Programme Coordinating Teacher was the Head of the BKD Committee, Ivy Dusity.

According to her, among the objectives of the Kaamatan programme weree to increase among the students the use of the Kadazandusun language among Kadazans and Dusuns, create understanding towards the concept of celebration and engage with the excitement of the Harvest Festival and cultivate the habit of respecting customs and races.

In conjunction with the festival, a talent show, Untuk Ngadau Dazanak and Kusai Tavantang were held.

The winners of Unduk Ngadau were Janessa Jade Joseylin followed by Thaliatemira Chiong, Betsy Bea Bertro, Christine Leona Charlese and Audra Mathilda Daniel.

The talent show was won by Marisa Kaiser followed by Vicky Chris, Dyani Ranea & Rafia Balqis, Elphege Ethalbert and Airis Danisha & Nathania Hanessa.

Among those present were the school’s Headmaster, James Johnny, School Administration Senior Assistant, Wong Shiau Li and the Afternoon Session Assistant Teacher, Rosita Evangeline Wilfredo.
