Stephen Colbert replacement show suffers huge ratings drop

  • CBS has experienced a decline in ratings after replacing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert with Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen.
  • Colbert's show was America's most-watched late-night programme during its final season, attracting 2.7 million viewers, with his final episode drawing 6.74 million.
  • However, Comics Unleashed’s debut attracted just 995,000 viewers, as reported by Late Nighter, trailing behind NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (1.5 million) and ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.6 million).
  • Byron Allen, host of Comics Unleashed, told NPR he is “not trying to replace Colbert” and intends for his show to avoid the political satire prominent in Colbert's programme.
  • The cancellation of The Late Show followed Colbert's criticism of Paramount for paying Donald Trump to settle a dispute concerning a 60 Minutes interview.
