SUKUMARAN said Malaysian courts have taken steps to ensure that human rights principles are followed whenever possible.

In Malaysia, human rights are written down in Article Part 2 of basic liberties.

“The Malaysian courts are moving more and more towards promoting human rights that are written into international law.

“In the case of Ahmad Zahri Mirza Abdul Hamid v. AIMS Cyberjaya Sdn Bhd (2020), the Federal Court made it easier for international laws to be accepted, even if they haven’t been ratified or domestic laws haven’t been changed to include the responsibilities under international law yet,” he said.
