
A team of Special Task Force (STF) Ambala has recovered a hand grenade from a car parked at a workshop in Shahabad of Kurukshetra on Wednesday.
As per the information, the recovery has been made on the disclosure of Surya Pratap, alias Noni Rana, a resident of Kurukshetra. A case was registered at Shahabad police station.
As per the STF Ambala, they made the arrest on May 11. During the operation, an illegal pistol, a magazine and two live cartridges were seized.
DSP STF Ambala, Aman Kumar said, “A joint operation was conducted by Counter Intelligence Punjab Police and STF Ambala Unit, during which one hand grenade was seized. Recently, our team had arrested Pratap and recovered a weapon from his possession. During the preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that the accused, in connivance with his associates based abroad, was involved in extorting businessmen and arranging firing incidents upon those who refused to pay extortion money.”
“During the remand, he disclosed that he had received two hand grenades, of which he had kept one in a car of his workshop in Shahabad, while the other one he had returned. The grenade was recovered Ladwa Road in front of Shahabad Sugar Mill. The Bomb Disposal Team was immediately called to the spot and the grenade was safely disposed of,” he said.
The DSP said, “Efforts will be made to find out the second grenade too. The accused has also disclosed that the blast was to be done in connection with an extortion call made. Pratap was in touch with his handlers sitting abroad, and the blast was to be done on his direction. Further investigation in the case is underway.”
