WARISAN President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (left) advised political parties to move forward and stop blaming Warisan for their losses in the 15th General Election.
He was responding to former allies in Pakatan Harapan (PH), particulary DAP’s Chang Foong Hin, who said that PH could have won more seats if only Warisan had chosen to work together with the coalition.
“Everybody is blaming Warisan, even Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional. They want us to be with them. But we cannot just be trying to please what they want, we must look into the demands and desires of the people on the ground,” he said.
The former Chief Minister said he could say the same if it was the other way round, where Warisan could have won a few more seats had PH not contested in certain areas like Penampang.
“But we cannot be blaming people. I think it’s time for us not to blame each other. What is already done is a done deal.
“Let’s move forward, for the country and the people,” he said. Chan had said Warisan had itself to blame for the dismal showing this time around, adding that more could be achieved if Warisan did not part ways with PH.
Chan also said he could not understand Warisan’s rationale for wanting go against PH in 15th General Election (GE15).
PH won a total of 82 seats with five seats from Sabah, while Warisan won only three seats out of the 51 it contested in Sabah and in the peninsula in GE15.
Once a formidable force, Warisan was formerly an ally to PH, with Sabah DAP even contesting under the Warisan Logo during the 16th State Elections in 2020.
However, their relationship started to sour when Warisan spread its wings to the Peninsula and worsened when Warisan opted out of inking a bipartisan Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Putrajaya, which PH had signed that resulted in the successful passing of the Anti-Hop Bill and restoration of the status of Sabah and Sarawak as in MA63, in parliament.
