Stop ‘deplorable’ attacks against Federal Court judges: Peja

KUALA LUMPUR – Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has joined the chorus calling for attacks against the Federal Court judges to stop, saying the acts are “deplorable and unfortunate”.

In a statement today, the Bersatu deputy president said such personal threats could create intimidatory circumstances that threaten the rule of law, and are the “very antithesis to democracy”.

“These attacks are clearly designed to harm the proper administration of justice in this country and interfere with the independence of our judiciary.

“Citizens have the freedom to criticise, but surely this does not include unfounded and personal attacks on the judiciary or any particular judge,” the Tambun MP said.

Yesterday, The Vibes reported that scores of netizens had called for authorities to investigate a Twitter user who allegedly threatened Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and her husband Datuk Zamani Ibrahim.

The offending tweet in question was a response to a separate tweet that had called for Tengku Maimun to recuse herself from Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s final appeal hearing at the apex court.

Tengku Maimun chairs the five-person bench, which comprises Sabah and Sarawak Chief Judge Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim and Federal Court judges Datuk Nallini Pathmanathan, Datuk Mary Lim Thiam Suan, and Datuk Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah.

Currently, the Federal Court is hearing Najib’s final appeal against his conviction over the SRC International Sdn Bhd case. – The Vibes, August 20, 2022
