A meeting of the Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal was held on Tuesday. During the meeting, concerns were raised regarding the increasingly unfavorable environment for trade and industry in the state.

State general secretary Sunil Mehra said the state collected approximately Rs 26,000 crore in GST during the financial year 2025–26, which is nearly half of Haryana’s collection. In May 2026 alone, Punjab collected around Rs 2,400 crore in GST, approximately Rs 3,000 crore less than Haryana.

“It was further stated that Punjab earned nearly Rs 200 crore in just two months of the current financial year through GST penalties and raids. Instead of attracting new businesses and industries, the existing business community and industrialists are being subjected to unnecessary harassment. Frequent raids and penalties are weakening an already struggling business sector,” said district president Parveen Goyal.
