KUALA LUMPUR - Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has expressed profound displeasure over ongoing disputes regarding his decree granting Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak house arrest, cautioning that challenging the decision amounts to defying the King.
Describing the conditional pardon as clear, definitive, and free of any ambiguity, His Majesty emphasised that the power of pardon is an absolute royal prerogative under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, which must be respected in accordance with constitutional monarchy and the rule of law.
According to a media statement issued by Istana Negara today, the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya reviewed Najib's petition on September 18.
The meeting, attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) and the Attorney-General, had tendered due advice to the King.
Following the deliberations, Sultan Ibrahim ordered that Najib serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest, conditional upon settling a fine of RM50 million.
The statement underscored that the conditional pardon order is explicit and entirely independent of any other ongoing legal cases involving the former premier.
Consequently, Istana Negara stressed that there should be no room for misinterpretation or protracted uncertainty over the implementation of the royal decision.
"Given that all conditions stipulated in the conditional pardon order have been satisfied, any argument questioning the order borders on defying the decree of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," the statement read. - November 7, 2026
