Perlis storm damages 26 houses in Kangar and Arau, with roof destruction reported and relief efforts ongoing.

KANGAR: A total of 26 houses were recorded to have been affected so far following a storm that struck several areas in Kangar and Arau yesterday.

Perlis Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said most of the houses sustained damage to their roofs in the 2.40 pm incident.

“This number is expected to rise as there are still victims who have yet to lodge reports, and our officers are still on the ground to obtain additional information,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Izaimi said the APM personnel have been deployed to the location to conduct monitoring and initial assessment of the extent of the damage and the assitance required by the residents.

Meanwhile, Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor advised victims whose homes were damaged to lodge reports with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to enable an assessment for assistance based on the category of damage.

He said JKM will provide assistance for minor damage, while severe or major damage would be referred to MAIPs for aid consideration.

He also advised all victims to immediately file police reports and then report the matter to JKM so that checks can be carried out before follow-up action and the distribution of assistance are implemented by the relevant agencies.
