The recent incident involving an uprooted tree crashing onto the KL Monorail track near the Concorde Hotel has prompted the temporary closure of four monorail stations - Bukit Nanas, Raja Chulan, Bukit Bintang, and Imbi. This unfortunate event, which occurred on Tuesday (May 7) during a thunderstorm, resulted in the disruption of monorail services as the affected stations require cleaning and repair work.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail), the service provider, swiftly announced plans to address the situation and minimize inconvenience for commuters. Beginning at 6 am today, alternative arrangements have been put in place to ensure commuters can continue their journeys smoothly despite the closure of the four monorail stations. The closure is necessary to facilitate the cleaning process, requiring a temporary shutdown of the power supply.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, Rapid Rail assured the public that alternative services would be available. To facilitate commuters, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) will operate shuttles free of charge, allowing passengers to travel between affected stations. Rapid Rail also advised affected passengers to consider utilizing alternative modes of transportation to reach their destinations promptly.

Efforts to manage the aftermath of the incident have been collaborative, with the DBKL Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLCCC) coordinating assistance. Thirty DBKL personnel from various departments, including traffic wardens, the rescue squad, and Urban Transport, have been deployed to support the efforts. Their assistance complements the work being carried out by Rapid Rail and DBKL to address the situation efficiently.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, safety remains a priority for all involved parties. Rapid Rail emphasized the importance of ensuring the thorough cleaning and repair of the affected stations to guarantee the safety of commuters once services resume. Commuters are encouraged to stay updated on alternative arrangements and follow the advice provided by Rapid Rail and relevant authorities.

In light of the disruption caused by the incident, Rapid Rail issued an apology for any inconvenience experienced by passengers. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proactive measures to mitigate risks associated with natural events, such as thunderstorms, to ensure the continued safety and reliability of public transportation systems.

As cleaning and repair work progress, commuters are advised to stay informed about updates regarding the reopening of the affected monorail stations. Rapid Rail remains committed to restoring normal operations as soon as possible, prioritizing the safety and convenience of commuters throughout the process.
