KUALA LUMPUR – After a recent string of uprooted trees falling in the city, another incident was reported earlier today, this time on Jalan Pinang.

A series of photos uploaded on social media showed a tree smashing into a vehicle during this evening's downpour near Menara Prestige.

Meanwhile, Astro Radio Traffic reported that the road is temporarily closed.

"Officers reported a fallen tree on Jalan Pinang, in front of Kuwait Bank, causing slow traffic from KLCC. The road is temporarily closed," stated a report from Astro Radio Traffic.

Following last week's incident of a large tree falling on Jalan Sultan Ismail, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has released a statement saying it has been taking measures to identify aged and high-risk trees since 2019.

It said its certified arborists have been conducting routine inspections of trees aged over 30 years and with a circumference exceeding 1.5m.

DBKL said it had identified 175 high-risk trees, mostly aged over 50.

Out of those, 147 trees have already been cut down, while 28 are slated for imminent removal

Last week, a massive 30-year-old tree fell along Jalan Sultan Ismail, killing one person and injuring another. The tree belonged to Menara IMC and not under DBKL. – May 13, 2024
