PETALING JAYA: The government has increased the allocation for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programmes to RM16 billion in 2027, up from RM15 billion previously.

Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the increase when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said all STR recipients would receive monthly SARA assistance of up to RM150, or up to RM1,800 annually, benefiting up to nine million recipients.

Anwar said Malaysians aged 18 and above who were not STR recipients would also receive two one-off SARA MADANI payments of RM100 each, to be disbursed before Hari Raya Aidilfitri and ahead of the 70th National Day celebrations.

The initiative is expected to benefit up to 13 million Malaysians, including those in the M40 income group.

He also announced that SARA assistance could be used to purchase fresh produce and wet market goods at 216 farmers’ markets and tamu nationwide under the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA).
