As a powerful sandstorm swept across Rajasthan on Saturday, several parts of the state witnessed dramatic weather conditions. The storm engulfed the sky in massive dust clouds and reduced visibility to near-zero levels.
Districts such as Bikaner, Churu and Sri Ganganagar were among the worst affected. Residents described the scene as resembling “night-like darkness,” as thick layers of dust blocked sunlight and turned the sky a deep brown.
In Sadulpur town of Churu district, locals said weather conditions deteriorated within minutes. Dense dust clouds rapidly blanketed the area, creating panic among residents and significantly slowing traffic. Witnesses reported that the sky took on a reddish-brown hue as powerful winds continued to lash the town.
Dust storms are a common phenomenon in northwestern India during the peak summer season. Intense heat causes the land surface to warm rapidly, creating unstable atmospheric conditions. Strong winds then lift loose sand and dust from arid regions, particularly the Thar Desert, transporting them across vast stretches and often triggering severe visibility disruptions.
