I am grateful with newswav.com in publishing my stories that attracted my long-lost colleague of the past 40 years, for Roger Leong to extend warmest greetings and nicely articulated “We need to refresh and recall those years of pleasant memories in mid-1980s when you regularly visited our Kanematsu Gosho (KG) company, the 7th Sogoshosha giant (trading conglomerate) in Japan, at its KL Office in MUI Plaza. I'm Roger Leong, the most senior Malaysian manager at KG-KL Office then, and our management with the Japanese team was in top-shape. I followed your regular write-ups published by Newswav which relate to me currently managing F&B business, after I left KG in 1986. Recently you contributed interesting stories about Gopeng, my hometown.”
Of course, I can still remember Roger, the most trusted Malaysian manager in the Japanese management team. I was then working with Toyobo Co. Ltd & KG joint venture company as HR & Admin manager for its manufacturing plant in Perak. Roger's Japanese boss sat on the board of our JV company which I had to report from time to time. Since I served top manufacturing engineers, in order to understand the culture, behaviors, moods, values and thinking of sogoshosha experts, I have to get advice from Roger's experience based on his proven good relationships and persuasion techniques. It works very well.
Roger revealed “After I left KG, I went to Japan for numerous business exposures and in 1988, I set-up to operate Strawberry Fields in PJ State New Town which is JAKIM Halal Certified. Our two other outlets based in Glenmarie & Cyberjaya. This is my 37th year in F&B. I'm forever grateful with KG exposure.”
In response to my question about the brand of his outlets, Roger clarified, “Strawberry Fields signifies the iconic 1967 song by The Beatles. It represents a journey from real-life of John Lennon's childhood in Liverpool to a global symbol of peace & reflection." I saw portraits of Beatles & guitars displayed!
