Even though France defeated England in the World Cup, it did not stop these England players to bring home a stray cat. Kyle Walker and John Stones have decided to adopt a cat they befriended in a training camp at the Al Wakrah hotel base.

The cat, Dave, was initially set to fly to England if the England team wins the tournament. However, the game left the team’s fans heartbroken when they achieved a 2-1 loss to France.

“Hopefully, I can stick to my promise that Dave will come home with us if we were to win the World Cup,” said Walker.

Although disheartened with the loss, Walker and Stone still planned on taking the cat home.

Dave was taken to the veterinary clinic to get his blood tested and receive his vaccination. A woman who was in charge of caring for the cat at the veterinary clinic reported that the cat could go home with the team. Nevertheless, Dave would have to go through four months of quarantine before he could be with Walker and Dave.

Walker added, “Some people really don’t like the cat, but I love him.”

Cats have caught people’s attention during the 2022 World Cup. During the training of France’s football team earlier in the tournament, cats were seen at the side of the field. Recently, a cat also became the spotlight of the World Cup when he interrupted a conference of the Brazil team.
