A security guard in West Delhi’s Kirti Nagar has been booked for allegedly assaulting a stray dog with an iron rod, leading to the animal’s death, while a separate case has also been registered against an animal activist and others for allegedly assaulting the guard outside the police station.
According to police, a complaint was lodged at Delhi Police’s Kirti Nagar Police Station on May 8 by Tarun Ghai, a resident of Ramesh Nagar.
The complainant alleged that on the evening of May 7, a guard identified as Vinod Paswan assaulted a stray dog in J Block, Kirti Nagar, using an iron rod, causing serious injuries that later resulted in the dog’s death.
During the inquiry, police were informed that the injured dog was first taken to a private veterinary doctor and later shifted to Najafgarh for treatment, where it eventually died.
The police further said that during the course of the matter, a woman identified as Jasmeet Kaur, described as an animal activist, allegedly assaulted the guard outside the police station premises.
Paswan, a resident of JJ Colony in Inderpuri, subsequently filed a complaint regarding the incident. His medical examination was conducted at Acharya Bhikshu Hospital on May 11.
Following a preliminary enquiry, police registered case under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against the guard.
A second case was registered under Sections 115(1) and 126 of the BNS against Jasmeet Kaur and others based on the guard’s complaint.
The police said investigations in both cases were under way.
