Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) is strengthening its role and strategy to deal with fake news.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said they took serious note of the spread of fake news that could undermine harmony and unity in society.

“We take this issue seriously and to deal with fake news, we need to strengthen the method of delivering authentic news.

“When we say authentic news, the backbone is definitely the Information Department (JaPen), Broadcasting Department (RTM) and agencies under KKD.

“In the same way with the programme explaining issues related to Sabah, explaining the government’s policies and we also focus on the role JaPen plays in the community,” he said.

Arifin, who is also the Communications Exco, said he would meet with departments and agencies under KKD to coordinate all programmes and activities of the Ministry in Sabah.

“During my courtesy visit to the Minister of KKD recently, I have brought several applications in relation to the needs in Sabah including broadband coverage.
