THE police and enforcement officers from Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) are maintaining tight security around the entrance to Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, following a devastating gas pipeline fire earlier this week.
A Bernama survey around the Incident Control Point (PKTK) revealed that only enforcement personnel and staff from agencies involved, such as the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the Public Works Department (JKR), and the Civil Defence Force (APM), are allowed entry into the affected area, following checks by the police.
Media personnel have also set up camp in a designated tent area to cover the incident.
Today, residents who were displaced by the fire were once again allowed to return home in shifts to retrieve essential items and important documents.
Selangor's Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, announced on Tuesday that the recovery process in the affected areas will be carried out gradually, once safety inspections have been completed.
"85 homes have been confirmed safe, and their residents were allowed to return to their properties starting yesterday," Amirudin said during a press conference in Shah Alam.
He also informed the media that investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing, with an initial report expected today.
The gas pipeline fire, which occurred at 8:10 AM on Tuesday, saw flames soaring more than 30 metres into the air and temperatures reaching as high as 1,000°C.
It took almost eight hours for the fire to be fully extinguished. The fire also caused a crater to form at the site, measuring 9.8 metres deep and approximately 21 by 24 metres in size.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works (KKR) has expressed its readiness to provide assistance, including advice and technical expertise, to help authorities identify the cause of the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights.
Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed that he has instructed all relevant agencies under his ministry to fully cooperate with the authorities in their investigation and in ensuring that preventative measures are implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
“The safety and welfare of the public are our top priority, and I am confident that all parties involved are committed to ensuring a transparent and comprehensive investigation,” Nanta posted on Facebook.
He added, "The Public Works Department (JKR) is also prepared to assist with any advice or technical expertise needed by the authorities.”
Nanta also urged the public to allow the authorities the necessary space to conduct their investigation smoothly.
“I am closely monitoring the developments regarding the gas explosion in Putra Heights and continuously receiving the latest updates from ministry officials and the agencies involved.
“We will continue to track the progress of the investigations and will fully support the authorities to ensure that justice is served and public safety is assured,” Nanta said.
He also extended his condolences to those affected by the incident. – April 4, 2025
