Strictly Come Dancing star Cach Mercer made a major faux pas as he accidentally let slip a spoiler from the week three results show before the pre-recorded episode aired.
The Love Island winner and TikTok star, 25, impressed the judges on Saturday (10 October) with a couple’s choice routine inspired by his home-grown love of dance and set to Raye’s “Beware.. The South London Lover Boy”.
Mercer and his partner Maddie Ingoldsby, 21, came joint second on the leaderboard with a score of 31, with Mercer celebrating making it through the results show with a photo from his dressing room captioned: “Made it through to another week, praise God.”
However, Mercer appeared to have forgotten that the results show is pre-recorded before airing on Sunday night and hadn’t been broadcast yet.
When fans pointed out that the results had not aired, Mercer deleted the post.
He later wrote: “Thank you so much for getting us through another week. This dance was challenging for us both physically and mentally. Both me and Maddie were out of our comfort zones but nevertheless, we left every bit of ourselves on that ballroom floor.
“That dance was a tribute to all the hard work I’ve put in for consecutive years on the streets and now I am lucky enough to be able to perform on one of the biggest dance shows in the UK. To anyone partaking in a similar creative journey I hope this encourages you to never stop!”
Strictly’s results show hasn’t always been pre-recorded, with the second part of each weekend’s programming airing live later on Saturday nights for the first four series.
Since 2007, the show has been broadcast later on the Saturday night with the same studio audience watching both parts.
As a result, the results of the bottom two, including which star was sent packing, frequently leaks on blogs and social media on the Sunday morning ahead of the results show airing.
In the case of this weekend’s show, that was Melanie Walters and Aljaž Škorjanec, who found themselves competing against Shaun Wright-Phillips and Alexis Warr in the dance off.
Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke chose to save footballer Wright-Phillips, while Motsi Mabuse opted for Gavin and Stacey star Walters.
The results show also came with the announcement that next week’s show would take on the theme of Icons, with the celebrities and their partners performing routines inspired by some of the best-loved recording artists in history.
During the results show, Mercer revealed that he’d be performing a foxtrot inspired by Frank Sinatra – or rather, “Frank Sriracha”, as he put it, prompting the other contestants to scream with laughter while Mercer put his head in his hands.
