A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck Mindanao in the Philippines, with MetMalaysia confirming no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck Mindanao, the Philippines, at 12.14 pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake was centred at 5.2 degrees North and 125.4 degrees East, about 159 km southeast of Koronadal City, the Philippines.

“The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, and an initial assessment found no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” MetMalaysia said in a statement today.
