Kota Kinabalu: The economic cooperation between the United States and Malaysia must continue to be strengthened.

Its Ambassador, Edgard D Kagan, said this cooperation is vital as it provides benefits and economic development for both countries, including Sabah.

“Malaysia has engaged in significant business with the United States in investments that have contributed to the economic development of Malaysia over the years, including this state.

“We are deeply committed to working closely with the Malaysian government to benefit the people of both countries,” he said after paying a courtesy visit to Governor, Tun Musa Aman.

Edgard added that the Oregon Zoo and Oregon Zoo Foundation, based in the US, established cooperation with several NGOs and Sabah Wildlife Department to strengthen conservation efforts, share expertise and build capacity in wildlife management.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on his part said Sabah welcomed more investors, including from the US, to invest in trade, education and culture.

He cited the success of ConocoPhillips, a US oil and gas company, with its investments in Malaysia and Sabah.

“Sabah will continue to facilitate a conducive and investor-friendly environment to attract more investments to the State,” he said when meeting Edgard.
