
TAWAU: Police have arrested a 23-year-old university student for allegedly making seditious remarks against Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman.
District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the student, a third-semester undergraduate at a local public university, was detained around 12.30pm Tuesday at Batu 4, Jalan Apas, and taken to the Tawau police headquarters.
The arrest follows 14 police reports lodged statewide over her speech at the Solidarity Rally - #JusticeForZara held in Tawau on Sunday night.
Investigations are underway under the Sedition Act 1948, Penal Code Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 505(b) (spreading public fear), as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Jasmin stressed that while public assemblies are allowed, speeches must not incite fear, threats, or sedition.
