Student dies in Keningau crash

KENINGAU: A Form Four student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Keningau II died following an accident involving a four-wheel-drive and a motorcycle along Jalan Keningau–Apin Apin in front of the school early Monday.

Keningau Police Chief Supt Yampil Anak Garai confirmed the incident, identifying the victim as Jumir Andoroh, 16, from Kampung Pohon Batu, Nabawan.

Police received information from the Keningau Hospital Emergency Unit at about 8.30am regarding a patient being treated following a road accident.

Initial investigations found that the accident occurred at about 6.45am when the motorcycle ridden by the victim collided with the rear of a Toyota Hilux four-wheel-drive.

The victim was on his way to the Keningau Sports Complex to attend a school sports event at the time of the incident.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead at 9.48am while receiving treatment due to head injuries.

The driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle was not injured.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and both vehicles involved have been issued summonses.
