Student-led Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaigns in Amritsar are being spearheaded by the District Election Office in collaboration with local colleges, universities and Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs). These initiatives are focused on voter awareness, youth participation and community enrolment.
DAV College is playing a pivotal role in the campaign, with four of its students inducted into the SVEEP core committee by the district administration.
The student-led teams formed under the initiative will focus on reaching rural and semi-urban areas to exhort eligible citizens to enrol as the voter revision exercise gets underway.
The drive aims to ensure maximum participation ahead of the publication of the final, error-free electoral roll, scheduled for October 1.
The team comprises Sandeep Kumar Sharma, coordinator of the MCVP Department, along with Tanishq Kashyap, Aastha Khanna, Ruhan Bhaskar and Hardik Bawa, who have also been appointed to the local administration’s social media awareness team.
Our students are committed to strengthening democracy by ensuring that no voter is left behind. They will work on ground to educate and assist people — particularly those living in remote border areas — in completing voter registration and correcting discrepancies in electoral rolls.
To engage the younger generation, the committee has decided to enlist local sportspersons, cultural icons and youth influencers as ‘SVEEP icons’.
In addition, a large-scale awareness campaign featuring infographics and short videos will be launched across social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the SIR-2026 schedule, along with the claims and objections process.
Students will also produce short videos and documentaries to promote voter awareness.
Besides digital outreach, members of the SVEEP core committee will organise door-to-door campaigns, ‘nukkad nataks’ (street plays), and informational sessions to simplify the enrolment process and encourage greater electoral participation.
