Baggy clothing may be a popular fashion trend, but one teacher is finding it increasingly frustrating to see students bringing the oversized look into the classroom.
According to ChinaPress, a male school teacher recently took to Threads to complain about students wearing “loose” school uniforms, particularly trousers that are noticeably larger and baggier than their actual body size.
According to the teacher, some students continue to wear oversized uniforms even after being reminded by teachers that the attire does not comply with school rules.
What appears to be a straightforward matter of following the dress code has instead turned into a debate between teachers and students.
“It’s Not Tight, So Why Can’t I Wear It?”
The teacher, posting under the Threads account “norfa_ichigo”, said some students seemed unconcerned even after being reprimanded for wearing loose-fitting trousers.
Their response?
They argued that they were not wearing tight-fitting trousers, so they could not understand why their uniforms were considered inappropriate.
The students reportedly questioned why loose trousers were a problem if the school was mainly concerned about students wearing overly tight clothing.
For the teacher, however, the issue was not simply about whether the trousers were tight or loose.
It was about following the school's existing dress code.
“Want to Look Stylish? Do It Outside School.”
The teacher said the school's requirements were actually quite simple.
Students are expected to wear straight-cut trousers, while their hair should be kept short, neat and tidy.
There is also nothing wrong with students wanting to follow the latest fashion trends, the teacher suggested but there is a time and place for it.
“Want to dress fashionably? Do it outside school,” the teacher said.
The post quickly attracted attention online, with many netizens expressing sympathy for teachers who have to deal with similar situations.
Netizens Divided Over Who Is Right
Some commenters agreed with the teacher and said that a lack of discipline and respect among students has become a challenge faced by teachers across the country.
They argued that school rules exist for a reason and that students should learn to follow them rather than challenge every regulation they disagree with.
However, not everyone completely agreed.
Some netizens suggested that instead of simply telling students that a particular style of clothing is “not allowed”, teachers should also explain why the rule exists.
For example, overly loose trousers could potentially become a safety issue during physical activities or sports, where students may trip or have difficulty moving comfortably.
By understanding the reason behind a rule, students may be more willing to follow it rather than simply seeing it as another restriction imposed by teachers.
From Skinny to Flared to Baggy
Others pointed out that school fashion has always changed with the times.
What students consider fashionable today may look completely different a few years from now.
Some netizens recalled how tight-fitting trousers were once popular among students, before flared trousers became fashionable, followed by today's oversized and baggy styles.
In other words, fashion trends may keep changing but school rules generally do not change at the same speed.
The debate ultimately comes down to a familiar question: Should students be allowed some freedom to express their personal style, or should school uniforms remain strictly within the rules?
For teachers, the answer may be simple: when students are in school, following the dress code comes first.
For students, however, a pair of baggy trousers may simply be the latest fashion trend.
And perhaps that is where the real challenge lies finding a balance between discipline, practicality and personal expression.
