DATUK Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) in the Prime Minister's Department (JPM) to find an immediate solution to address the issue of students at SK Balaban Jaya in Sabah forced to study under tents and on the sidewalks of mosques.
The Prime Minister said the matter was very troubling and immediate action must be taken.
"This matter is quite troubling. Instructions have been given to the MOE and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) in the Prime Minister's Department for an immediate solution.
"The comfort and welfare of children in pursuing knowledge must be given top priority and immediate action must be taken," he said in a Facebook post today.
The Prime Minister also uploaded a report on the school published by The Borneo Post, after damage to some of the infrastructure was caused by land movement and slopes, which made the school unsafe.
In the report, Likas State Assemblyman (ADUN), Tham Yun Fook, urged the MOE at the state and federal levels to immediately address the plight of students at the school who were reportedly forced to attend learning sessions in unsuitable temporary spaces.
"Children are currently forced to study at temporary locations in mosques, some on paths, exposed to rain during wet weather and under tents during the current heat.
"This situation is very heartbreaking when we see our children having to study in such a situation," he said, as reported.
