Study: M’sia Among Best Countries for Teachers to Emigrate to, Native English Teachers Earn Up To RM10.9k/mth

Malaysia has been named the 8th best tropical country for teaching English abroad in a study by Yahoo! Finance and Insider Monkey.

According to the study, native English speakers can earn up to USD2,300 or approximately RM10,900 per month for teaching the language in Malaysia, making our country one of the best nations for teachers to emigrate to.

 

There’s a demand for native English speakers to teach the language in Malaysia

According to the study, the average salary for English teachers is USD12,080 or around RM57,259 per year in Malaysia, which is around RM4,768 per month.

Yahoo! Finance and Insider Monkey added that the requirement for foreigners to teach English in our country is a TEFL certification and a Bachelor’s degree, with Malaysia offering opportunities for both experienced teachers and those seeking their first teaching position.

Besides that, the study noted that while some schools in Malaysia prefer candidates with a Master’s degree, the demand for native English speakers with just a Bachelor’s and TEFL certification is still aplenty.

Moreover, the competitive salary coupled with Malaysia’s low living costs further makes our country an alluring destination for native English speakers to teach the language here.

According to Yahoo! Finance and Insider Monkey, the top 10 tropical countries for teaching English abroad are as follows:

  1. Singapore
  2. Vietnam
  3. Costa Rica
  4. Seychelles
  5. Brazil
  6. Panama
  7. Maldives
  8. Malaysia
  9. Thailand
  10. Cambodia

As for the methodology used, Yahoo! Finance and Insider Monkey asserted that they identified 17 tropical countries with the highest demand for English teachers globally, both for citizens and immigrants.

They then obtained the average salaries of ESL teachers in these countries from Worldsalaries, with the 10 countries with the highest average salaries being listed and ranked in ascending order.
