Going green can help save natural resources like clean water, air, and minerals. By being smart about what we use, cutting down on waste, and recycling, we can make sure these resources stick around for the future. So, how is Malaysia progressing with that?

According to the 2024 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), Malaysia ranks in 117th place out of 180 countries in the world for most environmentally friendly countries.

Malaysia surpassed other SEA countries!

Malaysia is ranked 117th with a score of 41.2, placing it ahead of Indonesia, which is at 162nd with a score of 33.8, and the Philippines, which is at 168th with a score of 32.0.

Estonia leads as the most environmentally friendly country in the world with a score of 75.3. Close behind is Luxembourg with a score of 75.0, and Germany ranks 3rd with a score of 74.6.

Vietnam, on the other hand, is ranked the lowest globally for environmental practices, coming in at 180th with a score of 24.5.

Countries that are best addressing environmental challenges

The 2024 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), created by Yale University, includes 58 indicators across 11 issue areas, such as climate change mitigation, air pollution, waste management, sustainable fisheries and agriculture, deforestation, and biodiversity conservation.

The study also identifies which countries are best addressing environmental challenges using these indicators, focusing on climate change performance, environmental health, and ecosystem vitality.
