Yesterday (17 November), a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched after a man was swept away by a sudden surge of water in the Klang River near the Saloma Link.
The operation continued today, with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) confirming that the man was indeed carried away by the powerful surge.
Search and rescue efforts continue today
It’s understood that the SAR operation had to be called off at 11 PM yesterday due to poor lighting and safety concerns.
A spokesperson from the Operations Centre (PGO) and JBPM said that the second day of the search would take advantage of the clearer daylight conditions compared to last night’s operation, according to BERNAMA.
They added that the rescue team is also considering using boats and diving methods if the river currents allow it, depending on the final assessment by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) based on the water flow and water level at the scene.

As previously reported that the JBPM Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre said the incident happened at around 5:30 PM when the victim was trying to move his vehicle, which had been parked under the bridge while he was carrying out pipe improvement work.
Meanwhile, Dang Wangi District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam added that 12 of the 13 victims were successfully rescued.
“So far, the victim has not been found. The SAR team, which includes the police, firefighters, and other agencies, will continue the search,” he said in a statement on Monday.
