KUALA LUMPUR – PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said he will welcome his day in court to reveal alleged corruption by caretaker environment and water minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
The PAS deputy president has sent a letter of demand to Rafizi over claims the latter made regarding a RM2 billion flood mitigation project awarded by the ministry to an Umno-linked company.
“After my lawyers have replied to the letter of demand in the next week, I hope Tuan Ibrahim will pursue his suit against me in court.
“I don’t want his letter of demand to be some election campaign fodder and not end up in the courts. I want to go to court because I have strong proof to support the allegations I’ve made,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Rafizi on Monday made his allegations against Tuan Ibrahim involving the project that involves a flood barrier at Sg Langat.
The PKR leader, who is contesting the Pandan parliamentary seat in the general election (GE15), said the award was given through direct negotiations and was the second time in six months that the ministry had granted a project to the same company.
Rafizi said he had proof that the project was awarded directly instead of through an open tender.
He posted on Facebook a a copy of a supposed letter of approval by Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Seri Asri Hamidon to the Environment and Water Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zaini Ujang, dated October 7, pointing out the paragraph which states that the Sg Langat Phase 2 flood mitigation project was awarded via direct negotiations.
Rafizi also questioned why the project had been awarded if Parliament was going to be dissolved on October 10.
“That’s why I said a project of this size had to be speeded up so that it can be awarded before GE15.
“I am disappointed with Tuan Ibrahim’s reaction, as if he does not know anything… when logically, he would indeed have known that this RM2 billion project had been approved by the government for his ministry,” said Rafizi. – The Vibes, November 11, 2022
