Suffolk wildfire enters third day as firefighters issue update on major blaze

  • Fire crews are battling a large wildfire near Sizewell B nuclear power station in Suffolk, with the blaze now described as "stabilising" but still a "dynamic incident" as efforts enter their third day.
  • Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service confirmed an investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire, which has affected an area of 150 hectares, equivalent to approximately 210 football pitches.
  • Over 100 firefighters, supported by a helicopter and assistance from London Fire Brigade, have been deployed, with 12 fire engines remaining on scene overnight to manage smaller outbreaks.
  • Around 50 people have been evacuated from their homes and Cliff House Holiday Park as a precaution, though authorities have stated there is no concern of the fire spreading towards Sizewell B.
  • While power cuts initially affected 116 properties, electricity has since been restored to 111 of them, and local community support has been praised for assisting evacuees.
