LAHAD DATU: Fire and Rescue Department personnel succeeded in persuading a 35-year-old man not to continue with his suicidal intentions at the sea off Jalan Sri Pantai, Tanah Tumako, Sunday.
District Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Sumsoa Rashid said, his department received a distress call at 2.46pm about a possible suicide attempt.
He said a team was deployed to the scene and upon arrival, the team found that the man was already inside the water and they immediately went in to rescue the victim.
“The team managed to rescue and dissuade the victim with the assistance of other agencies.
“The victim was later taken to a safe area and handed over to police for further action,” he said.
According to Sumsoa, the team also faced some issues due to the slippery rock conditions and the threat of crocodiles.
However, the operation went smoothly and the operation was called off at 3.30pm.
