CM Bhagwant Singh Mann during a ‘Lok Milni’ at Bhattlan village in Tanda Urmur on Wednesday.

As the Opposition tries to take on Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann over the Akal Takht edict against him on the controversial video, he slammed Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia, saying that they both would be sent to jail for their alleged misdeeds.

Addressing a “Lok Milni” at Bhattlan village in Tanda Urmur Assembly segment today, Mann said, “Sukhbir and Majithia are claiming that they have a chance to form the next government. However, it’s their turn to go to jail. The sacrilege incidents, which took place during their regime, will be reopened and investigated thoroughly.”

He said, “Sukhbir was the Deputy CM and Punjab Home Minister then. Without the Home Minister’s orders, the police cannot open fire. Who had ordered firing at Behbal Kalan? Strangely, the FIR and challan points out that ‘unknown cops’ fired bullets. Can cops be unknown? All ammunition is accounted for in the police force. I want to assure every Punjabi that justice will prevail and those responsible for these heinous crimes will not be spared.”

He said both Akali leaders would have to face the law for their alleged actions.

Mann reiterated that the Jaagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, enacted by the state government would act as a strong deterrent against sacrilege incidents in future.

Terming SAD as “Nanan-Bharjai di party” (referring to MP Harsimrat Badal and MLA Ganieve Majithia), Mann claimed that the party had been confined to protect family interests rather than work for the public welfare.

He said the countdown had started when women would start receiving Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 grant in their bank accounts. “On July 1, you will receive SMS on your phones about the payment being credited to your accounts,” he said.

The CM announced that women constables, clerks and ASHA workers will be deputed within a radius of just 40 km from their homes.

Mann handed over cheques for development works to Bhattlan village and several other panchayats in the area.
