Malaysia’s King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, has urged political figures to exercise caution and avoid manipulating sensitive matters for political advantage, warning that such behavior could jeopardize the nation’s unity and stability. Speaking during the 2025 Investiture Ceremony held at Istana Negara in conjunction with his official birthday, the monarch highlighted the need for responsible and considerate leadership in navigating national affairs.

Sultan Ibrahim voiced concern over the growing trend of political division, pointing out that the increase in political parties, along with internal conflicts within them, could heighten disunity among citizens. According to him, this situation fosters a climate of rivalry and suspicion, ultimately eroding the foundation of social harmony.

He likened the current state of discord to a “spreading virus,” alluding to a divisive atmosphere he had long anticipated and now observes taking root in the country. The King’s message served as a cautionary note about the potential long-term harm that political exploitation of sensitive topics can inflict.

Expressing his personal aspirations for the nation, Sultan Ibrahim said he would be most gratified to see Malaysians remain united, adding that such unity would be the most meaningful gift he could receive as the nation’s monarch. He encouraged both political leaders and the general public to act with wisdom, steer clear of inflammatory actions, and work collectively toward preserving national solidarity.

Present at the ceremony were Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and other members of the Cabinet.

In a move to strengthen his connection with the people, Sultan Ibrahim announced plans for a Royal Tour across the Federal Territories. The tour aims to deepen his understanding of everyday challenges faced by citizens and includes the distribution of zakat (tithe) aid to those in need, particularly the poor and asnaf groups. This initiative reflects his commitment to inclusiveness, welfare, and social cohesion.

The King’s address served as both a heartfelt appeal and a firm reminder: in moments of political uncertainty, Malaysians should reject division and instead come together to strengthen the unity that binds the nation.
