Sultan Ibrahim’s state visit to Russia marks diplomatic milestone for Malaysia

HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has concluded a landmark State Visit to the Russian Federation, marking a significant step in fortifying Malaysia’s bilateral relations with Moscow.

Arriving in the Russian capital on 5 August at the invitation of President Vladimir V. Putin, Sultan Ibrahim became the first Malaysian Head of State to undertake an official State Visit to Russia since diplomatic ties were established in 1967.

During an official meeting held at the Kremlin, President Putin described relations between Kuala Lumpur and Moscow as being on strong footing, with consistent engagement between various government agencies.

As part of the royal itinerary, Sultan Ibrahim also travelled to Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, where discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in petrochemical development, innovation, Islamic finance, and the Halal industry.

The monarch departed Kazan on 10 August, concluding the five-day visit. His Majesty was accompanied to Kazan International Airport by His Excellency Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais (President) of Tatarstan. - August 10, 2025
