HIS Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has called on Malaysian pilgrims to prioritise essential religious obligations during the Hajj season and to exercise restraint in spending while in the Holy Land.
Speaking at the Selangor Hajj Course 1447H at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam, the Sultan said pilgrims should safeguard their health, avoid wasteful spending, and remain mindful of global economic uncertainty.
“I remind pilgrims that they must take care of their health, avoid wastage, control their spending and practise thrift, especially in the current situation of global economic instability,” he said.
“Focus on the obligatory acts of worship and reduce shopping and unnecessary expenditure while in the Holy Land.”
The Sultan also urged pilgrims to make full use of the opportunity to perform Hajj, noting that Malaysia’s quota remains limited and the chance to undertake the pilgrimage is highly valuable.
He reminded pilgrims to appreciate the role of Lembaga Tabung Haji in managing and safeguarding their welfare, and warned against engaging with unlicensed or unreliable travel operators.
“Use the facilities provided by Tabung Haji to avoid pilgrims being deceived by other agencies with unknown backgrounds, which could result in their Hajj plans being disrupted,” he said.
“Pilgrims must also maintain discipline while in the Holy Land and uphold the good name of Selangor and Malaysia.”
He further advised Malaysian pilgrims to comply fully with regulations set by Saudi authorities and to avoid involvement in any form of protest or demonstration during their stay.
“Obey the regulations set by the Government of Saudi Arabia and refrain from participating in any protests or demonstrations,” he added.
The Sultan’s remarks came as more than 5,000 participants attended the state-level Hajj course, with over 8,000 Selangor pilgrims expected to perform the pilgrimage this year, with the first flight scheduled for 18 April. - April 12, 2026
